Tesco Mobile is a UK MVNO jointly owned by Tesco and Virgin Media O2 (Telefónica). It is one of the UK's most popular budget mobile networks, offering pay-as-you-go and monthly plans with data rollover. Tesco Mobile runs on the O2 network, which means it shares O2's nationwide 4G coverage. Tesco Mobile does not currently support 5G. Unlike O2 itself, Tesco Mobile's APN — prepay.tesco-mobile.co.uk — requires no username or password, making setup simpler. Tesco Mobile SIMs are often sold pre-activated in Tesco stores and may come with configuration pre-loaded, but if you insert the SIM in an older or factory-reset phone, you'll need to enter these settings manually.

How to Set Tesco Mobile APN on Android

  1. Open Settings on your Android phone.
  2. Tap Connections (Samsung) or Network & Internet (stock Android / Pixel).
  3. Tap Mobile networks.
  4. Tap Access Point Names (APN).
  5. Tap the + (plus) button to add a new APN entry.
  6. Enter each value from the table above exactly as shown.
  7. Tap the ⋮ menu (three dots) then tap Save.
  8. Tap the radio button next to the new APN to select it.
  9. Restart your phone or toggle Aeroplane Mode on then off.

How to Set Tesco Mobile APN on iPhone / iOS

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Mobile Data (or Cellular).
  3. Tap Mobile Data Network (or Cellular Data Network).
  4. Under Mobile Data, enter the APN value shown in the table above.
  5. Scroll to the MMS section and enter the MMSC, MMS Proxy and MMS Port values.
  6. Press the Home button or swipe up — iOS saves automatically.
  7. Toggle Aeroplane Mode on for 10 seconds, then off.
  8. Test by opening a website in Safari.

Which Phones Do These Settings Work On?

Tesco Mobile APN settings work on all Android phones (Android 8+) and iPhones (iOS 14+). Maximum network speed is 4G. For Android 12+ devices, find APN settings at Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Access Point Names.

Tesco Mobile APN Troubleshooting

Remove and reinsert your SIM to reset the configuration lock. Check for any pending OTA configuration messages from Tesco Mobile. If using a Samsung, try Settings → General Management → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
Verify the APN is exactly prepay.tesco-mobile.co.uk — note it begins with 'prepay' even for monthly contracts. Confirm mobile data is toggled on. Check your Tesco Mobile balance or plan is active using the My Tesco Mobile app.
Tesco Mobile shares O2's MMS infrastructure. Check MMSC is http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002 and proxy is 82.132.254.1. Port should be 8080. Disable Wi-Fi when testing MMS as it requires mobile data.
Contact Tesco Mobile support and ask them to disable OTA configuration pushes. A SIM replacement can sometimes resolve persistent resetting issues.
Verify MCC 234 and MNC 10 are both correct. Tesco Mobile uses O2's network (MNC 10). Wrong MNC values are a common cause of 'no service' after manual APN entry.
